GLADYS BEATRICE NANCY VERMETTE (née MOORE) May 13, 2026 | Age 84 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gladys Beatrice Nancy Vermette (née Moore), who passed away on May 13, 2026, at the age of 84, surrounded by the love of her family. Gladys was a devoted mother, cherished grandmother, and the heart of many treasured family gatherings. Family meant everything to her. She found her greatest joy in bringing loved ones together, especially during the holidays, with Christmas holding a particularly special place in her heart. She was known for her incredible home-cooked meals, thoughtful gifts, warm laughter, and the unmistakable love and pride in her eyes when she was surrounded by family. Gladys created the kind of home where people felt welcomed, cared for, and deeply loved. Even when she could no longer host family celebrations herself, the traditions and love she created lived on through those she inspired. Gladys’s Anglican faith was an important part of who she was. As a devoted member of St. Mary Magdalene Anglican Church for many years, her faith offered her strength, comfort, and a quiet foundation throughout her life. Gladys also gave generously to her community through her involvement with Pinecrest Rebekah Lodge #264 in Sturgeon Falls, where she proudly served as Noble Grand. Her years of service reflected her caring spirit, commitment to others, and desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those around her. Many in the community will fondly remember Gladys from her many years working at Carl’s, Gervais, Walsh’s, and The Riviera Restaurant, where her warmth, hard work, and friendly presence touched the lives of so many. Gladys had a deep love for animals and was a longtime supporter of the Humane Society. She had a particular fondness for cats, earning her the affectionate nickname “Kitty” among those who knew and loved her. Gladys was predeceased by her beloved husband, Reginald Vermette; her stepchildren Michael Vardy and Jimmy Keenan; her siblings Yvette Rouleau (late Jacques), Lena Chouinard (late Rosco), Maurice “Ben” Moore (late Phyllis), and brothers Gordon and Norman Moore; and many loved ones who went before her. She leaves behind her loving daughter, Elaine Vermette - Ducharme (late Tristan Vaillancourt), her stepchildren Ivan Keenan, Robert Keenan (Angie), and Louise Vermette; her cherished grandchildren Adrianna Lafond (Andre Shank), Dylan Ducharme, and Tristan Ducharme; her siblings Elizabeth McLeod (late Sam) and Stanley Moore (Leona née Commanda); several beloved step-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; extended family; and dear friends who will miss her deeply. In her final hours, she was surrounded by love, gratitude, and the voices of those who loved her most. Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in imagining Gladys reunited with her beloved Reginald and the family who welcomed her home. Special thanks to Dr. Labelle and the compassionate nurses and staff of the 3rd floor at Au Château for their care and support. In lieu of flowers, donations in Gladys’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or the Humane Society. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Théorêt Bourgeois Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Union Cemetery in Sturgeon Falls on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a luncheon for family and friends.
